Nature Awareness, Requirement 5

Explain where your household garbage ends up and what recycling is available in your area? (minimum 100 words)

We have done an excellent job of not creating trash in our house. There are recycling options in Columbus, though you have to pay for them ($5/month), and we have purchased this option. The vast majority of trash we create is cat litter and the rare non-recycling food packaging that we come across (with a vegan roommate, though, nearly everything we purchase is recyclable). Our trash ends up in a landfill south of Columbus. At one time there was a trash-burning plant, but that has been recently decommissioned. We create approximately one full bag of trash per week. Our neighbors produce approximately seven or eight times that amount.
